THE FARMER AND HIS SONSORUNION IS STRENGTH Once upon a time there lived an old farmer in a certain village. He was rich and happy. But he had only one cause of worry. He had three sons who were always quarreling with one another. He advised them many times not to quarrel with one another but all in vain. One day he fell seriously ill. He was much worried about the nature of the future relationship among his sons. He wanted to give then a practical piece of advice before his death. He sent one of them to bring some sticks and told him to tie them all together. When this was done he sent for all of his sons. They all came at once.
First, he gave that bundle to his youngest son and asked him to break it. He tried his best, but he could not. Then he asked the second one to try his strength. He was an athlete and he was very proud of his strength. He strained all his muscles9 but he, too, failed to break it finally, he asked the eldest son to break it but the result was the same. I seeing that all three. Had failed badly, he smiled and untied the bundle and gave one stick to each of them. Then he asked them to break those sticks. They broke the sticks easily. This gave him a chance to give them the golden piece of advice. He picked up the pieces of the broken sticks in his hand and addressed them thus: "My sons! You have seen with your own eyes the fruit of unity. If you remain united among yourselves, your enemies will not be able to harm you. You will always succeed. But if you are disunited and continue quarreling with one another, you will be destroyed like these sticks". Saying these words, the old man died. His sons learnt a lesson and began to live unitedly after that.Moral: UNION IS STRENGTH
